The short version
- A few essential cookies keep the site working and secure. They don't track you.
- Google Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept.
- We don't use advertising, social media or tracking pixels.
- You can change your mind any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
1What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Websites can also keep small notes in your browser's local storage. Both are used to remember things between pages or visits. This page covers both, and the law treats them the same way.
2Essential cookies
These are needed for the site to work, stay secure or remember the choice you've made, so they don't need your consent. None of them are used for tracking.
- ebc_consent
- Remembers whether you chose Accept or Reject in the cookie banner, so we don't keep asking. Set by us. Lasts six months.
- __cf_bm
- Helps tell real visitors from automated bots, to protect the site. Set by Cloudflare, our security and delivery service. Lasts 30 minutes.
- wordpress_logged_in_… and wordpress_sec_…
- Only for members and committee members who sign in. Keeps you signed in to the members' area. Set by us. Lasts up to 30 days, or until you sign out.
- wordpress_test_cookie
- Only on the sign-in pages. Checks your browser accepts cookies. Set by us. Deleted when you close your browser.
3Analytics cookies
With your permission, we use Google Analytics to count visits, see which pages people look at and how they found us. It helps us understand things like which pages lead to people booking a visit. We see totals and trends, not who you are, and Google Analytics doesn't store IP addresses.
- _ga
- Tells one visitor's browser apart from another with a random number, so a returning visitor isn't counted twice. Set by Google Analytics. Lasts two years.
- _ga_…
- Keeps track of the current visit (for example, how many pages were viewed). Set by Google Analytics. Lasts two years.
These cookies are only set if you choose Accept. If you choose Reject, or haven't chosen yet, nothing is stored. Google may still receive a basic, cookie-free signal that a page was viewed, which can't be used to recognise you or follow you between visits.
We've turned off Google's advertising features, so analytics information isn't used for adverts or shared with advertisers. Google keeps it for 14 months. You can read more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
4Other storage on your device
A few features keep small notes in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, aren't sent to anyone, and you can clear them in your browser settings.
- ebc-seats-seen
- Remembers which open seats the "Seats available" lists have already shown you, so you see different ones next time. No personal information. Stays until cleared.
- Member profile form
- If you start filling in your member profile, your typed answers are saved on your own device so you can finish later. They're cleared when you send the form.
- Committee tools
- Only for committee members. The Friday register and running order keep unsaved ticks on the phone if the signal drops, then send them when it's back.
5Other websites
One of the fonts on this site is loaded from Google Fonts. That means your browser connects to Google to fetch it, but no cookies are set.
Links to other sites, such as LinkedIn, Google Maps, what3words and members' own websites, are just links. Nothing from those sites loads until you click, and once you're there, their own cookie policies apply.
6Changing your choice
Use the Cookie settings link (also at the bottom of every page) to open the banner and choose again. If you switch to Reject, we remove the analytics cookies straight away.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block essential cookies, parts of the site, such as signing in, won't work.
